This discussion focuses on our theme for the week: Human Capital as the X Factor in the Competitive Edge Formula. Read the Boone, Eckardt, Lepak, and Bosell (2018) article and respond to the discussion prompt.

The Boone, Eckardt, Lepak, and Bosell (2018) article entitled “Integrating Strategic Human Capital and Strategic Human Resource Management” is part of your reading for this module (Boone et al.) Discuss the merits of both parallel approaches to Human Capital as beneficial strategic resources to organizational performance. 
Discuss the merits of these approaches and 
explain how they both contribute to the position that “Human Capital is the X factor in the competitive advantage formula”. Support your position with citations from module readings and additional references as needed.

As we study human resources, it is important to appreciate that local practices and cultural boundaries could alter the definition, perception, and actualization of this discipline in different countries.

Identify a specific concept with implications related to human resources–such as immigration, diversity, ethics, sexual harassment, recruitment and selection, compensation, or privacy–and compare how the concept is perceived in the United States with how it is perceived in at least one other country.

This is a great time to reveal your personal experiences with other cultures. However, your responses should also be supported with evidence from Nelson and Quick (2019), module readings, or additional scholarly sources as needed. Then respond to at least two classmates. As business scholars, our discussion of this topic should focus on the research and the policies, rather politics or opinions.

Chapter 12 of Nelson and Quick (2019) discusses Leadership and Followership. The textbook asserts that “Leaders should be chosen who challenge the organizational culture, when necessary, without destroying it” (p. 216). Thinking in terms of influence and motivation, how would you lead an organizational culture change without destroying it and those followers in your charge?

Assessing organizational culture is essential to comprehensively understand an organization’s values, goals, and ways of being. Discuss the merits of both qualitative and quantitative assessment measures. Choose which method you would utilize and explain your reasoning.
